Lord Mayor 2018-19

29 November 2018

On Monday 1 October 2018, Alderman Peter Estlin was elected as the Lord Mayor of London for 2018-19. Peter Estlin is a Senior Advisor to Barclays plc, having trained as a Chartered Accountant. Peter was elected an Alderman of the City of London in 2013 and elected Sheriff for the City of London for the year 2016/17. His civic responsibilities include being a member of the City of London Corporation’s Education Board, Finance and Establishment Committees.  He was Master of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers in 2017-18, and a Court Assistant of the Chartered Accountants and Educators, as well as an Ironmonger.

Last week the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor gave his official address Livery Companies of the City of London, which is traditionally delivered at the start of the year of office and is an opportunity to outline the new Lord Mayor's plans for the coming year. During his address, the he introduced the work of the Lord Mayor's Appeal which this year is continuing a multi-year strategy based on four keys pillars to create a City that is Inclusive, Healthy, Skilled and Fair. This has included developing the initiatives 'The Power of Diversity', 'This is Me', 'She Can Be' and 'The Lord Mayor's City Giving Day', as well as supporting the charities Place2Be, On Side and Samaritans.

The Lord Mayor said: "We have enabled collaboration across the City providing companies with the tools and initiatives to tackle specific challenges to diversity and inclusion, as well as showcased successful implementation of initiatives within companies which address all our pillars. Our leading City-wide campaigns have now reached further afield with This is Me launched in the North West and Scotland."

The Lord Mayor usually visits the Brewers' Company at our Court Luncheon December, but sadly this year overseas commitments have prevented him from doing so. We hope to welcome the Civic party to another event in 2019 and will, of course, still provide our traditional gift of beer for the Mansion House Christmas party, as well as our annual donation to the Lord Mayor's Appeal.
