Inter-Livery Real Tennis

30 October 2017

This month, the Brewers' Company was delighted to be involved in the organisation of the inaugural Inter Livery Real Tennis Tournament. Taking place at the historic Queen's Club, home to two of only 26 real tennis courts in the UK, we were very pleased to welcome 42 participants from 24 Livery Companies.  Players were divided into two groups by handicap and games took place throughout the day.

HRH The Earl of Wessex, President of the Tennis & Rackets Association, a keen real tennis player and multiple liveryman, attended the event in the afternoon to add his support.

A great day was had by all, topped off by a delightful black-tie dinner in the evening, at which the prizes were presented. The Skinners’ Leopards were presented by the Honourable Mr Justice Cohen (past Master of the Skinners) to the winners of Group A: Tony Friend (Chartered Accountants) and Chris Vigrass (Solicitors), whilst the Psigma Cup was presented by Andrew Wauchope, Senior Investment Director of Psigma Investment Management, to the winners of Group B: David Carpenter (Distillers) and Miles Buckinghamshire (Glovers); he also presented the Psigma Real Return Racquet (sponsored by PlayBrave) to Michael Stephens for the best “real return” of the day as judged by the Queen’s professionals.

The event was judged a huge success and, as a result, the date of Tuesday 23 October 2018 has been set for next year’s competition.
