Charitable Giving in July

05 August 2019

At its recent meeting, the Court of the Brewers' Company approved the annual distributions from several of our charitable trusts. Payments have now been made to a range of beneficiaries in line with the objects of each charity.

Richard Platt's Relief-in-Need Charity

Supports people in the Parish of Aldenham and its surrounds who are living in conditions of "need, hardship or distress". This year grants were made to organisations such as Watford Mencap, Peace Hospice Care and Home-Start Watford and Three Rivers, as well as supporting specific projects such as counselling services at a local school and contributing to food hampers in the school holidays for families with children receiving free school meals.

Mr Samuel Whitbread's Trusts

Provides grants to people in need who formerly worked in the brewing or pub industries. This year the charity awarded several grants to individuals, in addition to supporting the Benevolent, the drinks industry charity.

Dame Alice Owen's Eleemosynary Charities

Supports elderly people in need who live in the parishes of St Mary Islington, St James Clerkenwell, Christchurch and Spitalfields. This year grants were awarded to seven individuals.
