Brewers' Lectures 2019

12 March 2019

Last week we were pleased to continue the annual tradition of giving the Brewers' Lectures at Aldenham and Dame Alice Owen's Schools. Now in its sixth year, this initiative is aimed at Sixth Formers at both schools who are considering their future career options and seeks to show them that there are many choices open to them in the world of brewing.

This year the Master, Stephen Spencer-Jones of Heineken UK, was accompanied by his wife Sarah, who met Stephen on a Graduate Training Programme at Imperial Inns and Taverns and subsequently spent 25 years working in the brewing industry, and Ruth Bromley, Procurement Services Director at Heineken. Between them, the team gave the students an insight into the brewing industry, from how beer is made to current market trends, and they highlighted some of the many career opportunities available for all sorts of people with different skills, such as sales, marketing, customer service, operations, HR and, of course, brewing itself. The talks were followed by tastings of a selection of beers to demonstrate the variety of different styles available.

We are very grateful to both Dame Alice Owen's and Aldenham Schools for facilitating this event which we hope will have inspired some brewers of the future!
