Brewers' Golfers Make the Most of Summer!

19 September 2016

The continued glorious sunshine at the beginning of September has provided excellent conditions for the Company's Golf Society, with the Autumn Meeting closely followed by the annual match vs Diageo both proving to be great fun.

The Autumn Meeting, which took place at Huntercombe Golf Club, had an excellent turn out of 21 golfers. The Master set the pace for the morning round, the Bonsor Cup, with 38 points, but could not compete with the back 9 of the winner, Tom Davies, 41 points in total with 24 coming from the back 9 holes! The afternoon foursomes, the Hazell Tankards, was secured by a Brewers’ Company team of the Clerk and Tony Marten with a very creditable 26 points from 11 holes, comfortably ahead of the runners up on 21 points.

The Brewers' were somewhat less successful at the Diageo match, with the 66th installment of this annual competition taking place at Woking Golf Club. Having not won the fixture since 1997, the Brewers' continued the tradition by losing 11 points to 5. The young executives from Diageo were more than a match for the Brewers' somewhat older team, even with some younger players from Fuller, Smith & Turner entering the fray. Despite the result however, the day was enjoyed by all!
