Sporting Success at Owen's!
17 February 2026
The Brewers’ Company administers the FE Cleary Schools Fund, a charity which provides funding for educational, sporting, musical and other extra-curricular projects at Dame Alice Owen’s School, for which state funding is not available.
Next week the Trustees of the FE Cleary Schools Fund will meet to review the grant awarded in 2024-25. Among many other notable outcomes, they will hear about an impressive year of sport at the School as reported by the Headteacher, Hannah Nemko:
“Your support has ensured we have not had to turn down the offer of a competition due to financial constraint and has allowed us to continue to invest in our outdoor spaces...Our PE Technician stepped up…to take a lead in a girls’ leadership in cricket opportunity which in turn saw the girls compete in, and win, the ‘Chance to Shine’ national competition in July.
“We have continued to work with an external Girls’ cricket coach, though the English Cricket Board and…to see a huge increase in the number of girls involved with cricket…We are now proud to have a Year 9 girl who is the youngest person ever to play for Middlesex County cricket.”
“Tony Meekin gave beginner golf lessons to over fifty Year 7 students in September and October, as a way of introducing them to golf at Owen's…The lessons will be offered again to those joining us in September. Using the same template as that used for the lesson, 21 Year 7 students and form tutor Tony Meekin undertook the Make A Wish Golf Challenge, hitting hundreds of golf balls into paddling pools to raise £783 for a wonderful cause.”
