The amazing work of the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST) has featured in a recent issue of the ISM Music Journal.

MiSST is an extraordinary programme which aims to transform young people’s lives through music. It operates in schools that serve disadvantaged and often challenging communities by providing not only funding for classical instruments, but also support in the form of regular tuition, opportunities to perform and a programme of excellence that is unrivalled in the UK. The programme originated in Highbury Grove School in Islington and is now supported in all schools across the Borough by the Brewers’ Company through the Dame Alice Owen Foundation, as well as expanding further to serve schools nationwide.

Rachel Landon, CEO of MiSST, says: “Our data shows that educational and social outcomes are improved through the provision of orchestral instruments and expert tuition. We believe that every young person is entitled to broad, balanced education that helps them to know themselves and ultimately find their place as both a contributor to and consumer within our society. Our moral purpose is to close the gap in outcomes to improve the life chances of every individual, whatever their background or starting point.”
