People at the Heart of Philanthropy
09 March 2026
The Master, Wardens and Court Assistants of the Brewers’ Company were delighted to host a Luncheon at Brewers’ Hall for charitable beneficiaries and professional advisors on 5 March.
The lunch followed the meeting of the Court at which, subject to audit, the distribution of funds to the beneficiaries of the Dame Alice Owen Foundation was agreed. In his speech, the Master, Fergus McMullen, announced that £2.1 million had been authorised for distribution to Islington beneficiaries and Dame Alice Owen’s School, with a further £400,000 expected to be distributed across the Company’s other charitable trusts during 2026.
He extended a warm welcome a wide range of guests, including members of Islington Council and representatives from the educational programmes that the Dame Alice Owen Foundation supports in Islington, representatives from Dame Alice Owen’s School, people from beneficiaries of the Brewers’ Company’s other charities, and advisers, partners and trustees who have supported the Company’s charitable work over the last year. He reflected on the shared commitment of those present to education, opportunity and community, noting that the luncheon was “not simply about governance or finance, important though those are, but about people, and about the very real difference that thoughtful philanthropy can make to lives across Islington and beyond.”
The Brewers’ Company is pleased to be able to hold this lunch annually and take the opportunity to thank some of the many people who work hard to ensure that our charitable work is successful.
