Both Aldenham and Dame Alice Owen’s Schools have had a great start to the academic year, with much to be proud of in the Autumn Term.
Aldenham School
At Aldenham School Year 10, 11 and 12 students took part in the History Department’s Great Debate, speaking on the theme of the importance of personal and public records as evidence for explaining stories of the history that is local to them. Ten junior houses went head-to-head in the much anticipated Junior House Science Competition, showcasing the sharp minds and teamwork of the school’s young scientists. Meanwhile, the Music Department’s Scholars’ Concert was an impressive showcase of talent with a selection of jazz, classical and pop music for all to enjoy. In the sporting word, the School’s teams performed brilliantly, both locally and nationally, in fives, hockey, football and netball. And finally, the careers department provided a wealth of opportunities for development this term, with the School’s first ever Law Networking Breakfast and talks for Year 12 students on careers in government.
Dame Alice Owen’s School
The School celebrated its founders day this term, remembering Dame Alice and her determination to provide a good education for all who came to her school. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the School’s move to its current location in Potters Bar, the first ever Head Boy of the Potters Bar site returned to speak to students, noting the way in which the ethos of the school - to strive to be the very best version of yourself you can be - has lasted across the years.
This term Dame Alice Owen’s School were honoured to receive the Anti-Bullying gold Award following a rigorous two-year audit of practices. The Department for Education is coming to visit the School in the weeks ahead to see the anti-bullying work taking place and determine what they can they can take from the School to use as examples of best practice across the country to inform their policy.
