DAOS in the Top Ten!

16 September 2025

The Sixth Form at Dame Alice Owen’s School has been ranked by the Telegraph as the 9th best in the country overall.

The rankings are based on a points system which takes into account not only overall A-level results, but a number of other factors including how well the school performs compared to its local authority average, how well disadvantaged pupils at the school perform at A-level, the number of subjects offered at A-level and the proportion of students going on to university, among others.

Owen’s is the only non-selective state school which features in the top ten. Every other school in the top ten requires a minimum of a grade 7 at GCSE to be able to progress to the A level, while Owen’s ask for a 6 in all subjects but maths. Owen’s require 30 GCSE points to get into the Sixth Form, while half of the other schools require 56-60. Analysis of the data shows that, from a much lower starting point, DAOS students achieve comparable outcomes to some of the most competitive schools in the country.

This accolade is a testament to the quality of the teaching in every lesson at Dame Alice Owen’s School, as well as the hard work of the Sixth Form and Leadership teams.
