Clerk's visit to HMS ALBION
18 July 2023
On 15 and 16 July, the Clerk spent some time at sea aboard our affiliated Royal Navy ship HMS ALBION.
The Clerk was delighted to have the opportunity to stay overnight on the impressive vessel, which is one of the Royal Navy’s two amphibious assault ships, as it sailed around the coast of the UK. During his visit he was able to spend time with the Captain and the crew and see more of the day-to-day life aboard the ship. He was also able to present the Brewers’ Company Award 2022 to CPO Sean Bevan:
Petty Officer Bevan’s Leadership, Management and Technical aptitude enabled the Commanding Officer to award him a ‘field’ promotion to Acting Chief Petty Officer in April 2022. Chief Bevan quickly rose to the challenges of his new role, leading his team in a significant repair effort on the ship during the summer of 2022. Chief Bevan’s efforts in other technical areas have also been recognised by external assurance authorities. During HMS ALBION’s Sea Training in spring 2022, Chief Bevan was recognised for his clear and concise briefing style by the Sea Training Assessors. During a Flotilla assurance visit in summer 2022, he was commended for his systems knowledge and suggestions for equipment improvements. These system improvements, which would result in cost savings for the Royal Navy, are being evaluated by the Defence Design Authorities for implementation within HMS BULWARK, HMS ALBION’s sister ship. Chief Bevan is widely known to be a helpful and approachable member of the Marine Engineering Department. His cheerful, positive demeanour and motivational leadership style are consistently evidenced. He has kept operational essential systems working whilst maintaining morale when others may have faded in the unpleasantness of several tasks.
Sadly, this visit to HMS ALBION will likely be one of the last for a while as the ship prepares to go into extended readiness for a period of maintenance.
