Celebrating Our Military Affiliations

Affiliations Awards 2026

On 15 October, the Master, Wardens and Court Assistants welcomed representatives from our military affiliations at a Court Luncheon at Brewers’ Hall.

The Brewers’ Company is proud to be affiliated with HMS BELFAST - a Type 26 Frigate currently under construction on the banks of the Firth of Clyde in Glasgow, the Royal Lancers - 12 Armoured Infantry Brigade’s Armoured Cavalry Regiment based in Catterick in Yorkshire, and 9F (Islington) Squadron Air Training Corps. Representatives from all of our affiliations, along with staff and Governors from the Aldenham Foundation, joined the Court for a Lunch at Brewers’ Hall to celebrate the Company’s military connections and educational work.

During the event, the Master presented the Brewers’ Company Awards 2026 to winners from the Royal Lancers and 9F (Islington) Sqn. These awards are presented annually to individuals who have excelled in the previous year. The citations for this year’s winners were:

The Royal Lancers – Corporal Joshua Joung

Corporal Young has demonstrated exemplary leadership and resilience through his performances on the Regimental Patrols competition, Ex OMDURMAN SHIELD and the Brigade Patrol competition, Ex SCORPION STING. On each occasion, he successfully led his team to an excellent standard, distinguishing himself as the only Corporal entrusted with team leadership responsibilities. Although relatively junior and not yet being qualified as a Crew Commander, he consistently displayed the confidence, maturity and professionalism expected of a far more experienced NCO. His ability to motivate and lead his soldiers demonstrates considerable leadership potential.

Cpl Young embodies the qualities expected of a Royal Armoured Corps JNCO: agile in thought, tenacious in action, and dependable under pressure. He is one of the most promising Junior NCOs of his cohort and fully deserving of the Brewers’ Award for outstanding military achievement as a JNCO or Tpr.

9F (Islington) Squadron – Flight Sergeant Nico Song

Flight Sergeant Nico Song has been chosen to receive the Brewers’ Company Award in recognition of the exceptional contribution he has made to 9F (Islington) Squadron throughout his time as a cadet. This award is not the result of one particular achievement or standout moment. Instead, it recognises the consistency with which Nico has given his time, energy and service to the Squadron since enlisting in 2021.

There have, of course, been notable successes along the way, including leading successful teams at the Inness Sword and Wing Field Day. However, it is the work that happens between those occasions that best explains why Nico has been chosen for this award. Nico is one of those cadets who can simply be relied upon. Whether it is an ordinary parade night, preparing for an important event, running an activity or supporting a camp, he is always willing to get involved and help wherever he is needed. Over time, that reliability has made him an important part of the fabric of the Squadron. He has given countless hours to planning lessons and activities, supporting fieldcraft and drill camps and helping younger cadets find their feet. His experience has also been shared beyond Islington, supporting cadets and squadrons across the country.

As Nico approaches the latter stages of his cadet career, we wanted this award to recognise just how much he has given back to an organisation and a Squadron that he has been part of for nearly five years.
