Brewers' Hall Wins Civic Trust Award
14 April 2025
We are delighted to announce that Brewers’ Hall has won a 2025 Civic Trust Award, presented to architectural projects which make an outstanding contribution to the quality and appearance of the built environment.
The refurbishment, extension, and upgrade of Brewers’ Hall, designed by dMFK Architects and carried out in 2020-22, saw the addition of a three-storey extension to the existing building, as well as substantial internal changes which enhanced the layout and significantly improved the building’s thermal and acoustic qualities.
A Brewers’ Hall has stood on the same site for at least 600 years, with the first Hall being destroyed in the Great Fire of London and the second Hall lost during an enemy air raid on the night of 29 December 1940 during the Blitz. Building of the current Hall was completed in 1960. The refurbishment addresses both the historical significance of the building and the operational needs of the Brewers’ Company, providing enhanced facilities for the Company’s members and events, as well as four storeys of modern, lettable office space.
From over 250 entries from the UK, Canada, Germany, India and Sweden, Brewers’ Hall was selected as one of 19 to receive a Civic Trust Award for projects demonstrating excellence in architecture or design, whilst being sustainable, accessible and providing a positive civic contribution.
The Judges commented: “A masterclass in architectural renovation, balancing the preservation of a historic building with the demands of modern standards. The careful design interventions not only ensure the building’s longevity but also enhance its role as a community asset.”
