Aldenham School visitation 2026
29 June 2026
On Saturday 20 June the Master, Fergus McMullen, was pleased to be the Guest of Honour at this year’s Aldenham School Visitation.
Visitation Day is a joyful celebration of the achievements of the students and staff at the School over the last year. In recognition of the special bond between the Brewers’ Company and the School, which has existed since the School’s founder Richard Platt entrusted its governance to the Brewers’ in 1596, the Master Brewer was asked to share his words of wisdom with the students. The Master said:
“We regularly hear of your activities and achievements and we never cease to be impressed. Whether in sport, on the stage, in music, art, or academic studies, Aldenham consistently seems to excel. We have particularly enjoyed hearing recently about the repeated successes of the football teams at all levels.”
He went on to offer some much-needed encouragement:
“At this stage in life, many of you may have absolutely no idea what you want to do in the future. And there is nothing wrong with that. As Abraham Lincoln once President of the USA said: “The best way to predict your future is to create it.” At times, that can feel rather daunting.
“Many young people today understandably worry about the future - about climate change, artificial intelligence, conflict around the world, and the many uncertainties we face. But the doubts and anxieties faced by previous generations were no less profound. Periods of great change and new technology have always created fear and uncertainty. Challenges that seem overwhelming at one moment often appear far less so once humanity finds solutions to them. And humanity has a remarkable ability to solve enormous problems - technological or otherwise.”
The Brewers’ Company is proud to support the education of young people at its schools through its charitable work. As the Master reminded everyone at Visitation: “Success belongs to those who continue learning”.
