The Season of Goodwill
This Christmas the Brewers’ Company was pleased to be able to spread some seasonal cheer by distributing donations from a number of its charities.
Dame Alice Owen’s Eleemosynary Charities and Samuel Whitbread’s Trusts
Created (respectively) to provide grants, items and services to elderly people in need in the Parishes of St Mary, Islington or St James, Clerkenwell and Spitalfields, and to support needy people who have been employed in the brewing industry. Grants were distributed to seventeen individuals in December to assist them over the festive period.
Maurice Daphne’s Bequest (Teachers’ Fund)
It is not an easy time to be a teacher at the moment, but these small grants awarded to eight outstanding staff at Dame Alice Owen’s School provided one way to show how much their hard work is appreciated.
Richard Platt’s Relief-in-Need Charity
This year providing support to thirteen organisations which seek to reduce the need, hardship or distress of people resident in the Parish of Aldenham, including schools, hospices, almshouses and a number of small charities providing vital services to the community.
EH Thompson Bequest and Katherine Dame’s Legacy
Both supporting the further education of students from Dame Alice Owen’s School, with grants awarded to six individuals towards their studies at university.
