Brewing and Beer Brands Forum and Dinner 2019

20 May 2019

The Brewers' Company annual Brewing and Beer Brands Forum and Dinner took place at Brewers' Hall on Wednesday 15 May. Four presentations covering contemporary issues in the brewing industry were followed by a delicious dinner for attendees from our member brewing companies.

The talks began with Jon Coleman, Food and Law Advisor at Campden BRI, whose presentation, 'Meeting growing regulatory challenges regarding alcohol and health', described moves by regulators in Europe and further afield to require information on labels of alcoholic beverages regarding communication of health risks or nutrition content.

He was followed by Dr Nigel Davies, Technical and Sustainability Director at Muntons plc who discussed 'Risk and opportunities for barley growing in a changing climate'. This talk explored the risk posed by climate change on the barley supply chain in terms of measurement, potential legislative impact, and support for farmers to continue growing malting barley.

Next, Stuart Morgan, a Graduate Engineer at Heineken UK presented an excellent overview of his project to drive engineering compliance in high risk areas at Heineken Manchester entitled 'Delivering improved safety by driving engineering compliance'. Stuart was very impressive and certainly is one to watch for the future.

The presentations were wrapped up by Olly Wehring, Editor of Just Drinks, who took an insightful look at 'Beer – The contemporary view and what’s on the horizon', considering how brewers around the world are fighting to remain relevant, through innovation, diversification and consolidation.

We are very grateful to all of the presenters for supporting this event and are looking forward to next year's Forum which will take place on Wednesday 13 May 2020.
