The Lord Mayor of London 2017-18

04 December 2017

We are looking forward to welcoming the new Lord Mayor of London, Alderman Charles Bowman, to the Brewers' Company Court Luncheon in December. Alderman Bowman was installed into this high office earlier in November and a few days later he presented his vision for the coming year in his Address to the Livery at the Mansion House.

In his address the Lord Mayor spoke of evolving the City of London as “the exemplar of innovation, social mobility, diversity and most of all, trust”; he highlighted the need for the City to be “responsible, reliable, relevant and radical”; and he reminded the Livery Companies of their responsibilities in philanthropic endeavour and the importance sharing these with the wider public. In conjunction the beginning of his year of office, the Lord Mayor launched the City of London Corporation’s initiative “The Business of Trust”, which seeks to improve the trustworthiness of the UK financial and professional services sector to create a lasting legacy of better business trusted by society, saying: “we are eager to work with the City community – challenging and supporting organisations to improve their practices through action”.
